FHSSA’s Partnership Program began at the inception of the organization. As the core of FHSSA, program partnerships are established between US and African hospice and palliative care organizations across United States and 13 African countries.
Specific objectives of the partnership program are:
- Promote mutually beneficial relationships between US and African organizations to foster idea-sharing, educational opportunities and professional exchanges;
- Generate financial support for the African organizations through the activities and fundraising efforts of the US partners; and
- Engage US hospices in improving quality hospice and palliative care internationally.
- Develop international relationships in which participating organizations can serve as a support for one another.
FHSSA assists organizations in developing, maintaining, and sustaining an effective partnership through personal consultations, the Partnership Advisory Council, and a variety of training resources. FHSSA also enlists professional colleagues at the African Palliative Care Association (APCA) and national associations to assist in the identification and support of African hospice programs.
In 2008, FHSSA and its Program Partners helped touch the lives of more than a quarter million individuals and families affected by AIDS, cancer and other illnesses. With the support of US partners, more than 90% of partnership revenue received went directly to Africa to support the individual organizations.
With the tremendous success of FHSSA’s Partnership Program, we look forward to partnering the many African programs awaiting US partners, as we continue to expand our impact.
