Program Partners

“39.5 million people! How can anyone relate to that number – or any other figures concerning sub-Saharan Africa? We get overwhelmed with statistical overload, losing sight of the fact that each of these numbers represent an individual…a son or a daughter, mother or father, sister or brother, baby…lost dreams, lost childhood, lost futures, a lost generation. Through the partnership between Hospice of Southern Illinois and Ranchod Hospice [Zambia], I have been blessed with the opportunity to put faces and names with these numbers. I have seen hope replace hopelessness. I have seen tremendous strength and dedication. I have seen compassion and caring beyond words.”

Carla Feldhamer, RN, CHPN, Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc, Belleville, IL

Benefits of Partnering for FHSSA’s U.S. Partners
  • Partnerships present an opportunity for US hospices to learn about the patients and families affected by AIDS, cancer and other diseases in communities across Africa. They also present an opportunity for U.S. hospices to share this information with their local communities.
  • Partnerships lead US hospices to a greater understanding of how quality hospice and palliative care can be provided with limited resources.
  • Partnerships lead US hospices to create long-lasting relationships and a deeper understanding of their African partner’s challenges, goals and successes.

Benefits of Partnering for FHSSA’s African Partners
  • Partnerships benefit African hospices with the knowledge that they are being supported in their hospice and palliative care efforts to care for their patients, families and communities.
  • Partnerships provide financial and in-kind support to their African partner from their US hospice partner. Funds help support and expand their programs as well as in-kind donations provide medical and home care supplies, professional journals, books and training materials.
  • Partnerships lead African hospices to create long-lasting relationships and a deeper understanding of their US hospice partner’s challenges, goals and successes.
